Moet Champagne (the House of Moet & Chandon) was founded in 1743 by Claude Moët, a visionary wine merchant, who quickly made Moet Chandon a reference in the highest courts of Europe. A few years later his grandson, Jean-Rémy Moët, developed the reputation of the house internationally. Notably, Jean-Rémy Moët notably created the iconic cuvée of the house, the Moet and Chandon Imperial, in honor of the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, who visited the estate on several occasions and who allegedly invented the tradition of bashing open a bottle of Moët Chandon champagne to celebrate a victory with his troops. The Moet Imperial is made from a blend of Pinot Noir (30 to 40%), Pinot Meunier (30 to 40%) and Chardonnay (20 to 30%). This blend is completed with 20 to 30% reserve wines in order to refine the intensity, richness and consistency of this exceptional champagne.

Moët et Chandon is one of the world's largest champagne producers and a prominent champagne house. Moët et Chandon was established in 1743 by Claude Moët, and today owns 1,190 hectares (2,900 acres) of vineyards, and annually produces approximately 28,000,000 bottles of champagne


When you think of champagne, the image of a dark green champagne bottle with a gold-foiled neck pops into your head. There's a reason for that. This particular bottle is the Moët & Chandon Brut Imperial Champagne. The Moët & Chandon company is undoubtedly the most famous champagne personality in the world. On the one hand, this is thanks to products such as Brut Imperial and Moët Rose. And on the other hand its long history, which began in 1743. The high quality of the Moët & Chandon products, in which more than 250 people know how, also plays a major role.


One year before the champagne house was officially founded, Claude Moët began exporting champagne wine to Paris. When he then bought the former monastery of Hautvillers, in which the champagne production technique had previously been refined, he expanded his scope of supply to Europe and the United States. The company grew again in 1792 when the grandson of the founder, Jean-Remy Moët, established the headquarters in Champagne, which still exist today.


At this early stage of the company, great successes could already be celebrated. Moët became the purveyor to chambers and courts of noble and royal houses. They owed this in part to their seat in Epernay, where many of the good houses had a summer residence. On the other hand, it can be assigned to a specific person. Napoleon Bonaparte, was a big fan of the house sparkling wine. He always carried a supply of the champagne with him on his victorious voyages to the East. To ensure this, he usually included a stop in Epernay in his routes. Due to the already high reputation at that time and the imperial lover of champagne, the champagne has earned the historical name Imperial, which literally means imperial.


In 1860, Moët & Chandon introduced what is now the best-selling and most popular champagne, the Moët & Chandon Brut Imperial. This is created from three grape varieties. The body of the champagne, which consists of 30 to 40 percent Pinot Noir, is responsible for the balance of the champagne. The 30 to 40 percent Meunier gives the Brut Imperial its smoothness and the finesse of champagne, consists of 20 to 30 percent Chardonnay. This perfect assemblage of sparkling wine not only impresses with its elegant golden exterior, but also with its intense and fruity nose, with nuances of apple, citrus, white flowers, brioche, cereals and fresh nuts. This number of notes is by no means coarse on the palate, but the Moët & Chandon Brut Imperial knows how to show its strengths subtly and gracefully. It is not without reason so well-known and popular and that is why it should be tasted by everyone.

A new entry to Interbrand's list this year is Moët & Chandon Champagne. It is positioned at #99 on the list, worth $4,131m. With a history going back some 270 years, it also holds a Royal Warrant to supply champagne to Elizabeth II.
