Another of the main characters in the program is a lift called Lotis.[2] Based in the apartment building where two of the families live, Lotis is, to the adult observer, a normal, everyday lift.[2] It takes people to the desired floor, greets them vocally and frustrates them occasionally with its unreliability.[2] To the children, however, Lotis is a friend, a mentor and a fellow explorer of their world.[2] Lotis is an artificial intelligence.[2] She has a computer matrix screen on her back wall on which appear clues, questions, diagrams and games.[2] She is able to take them anywhere in space or time and will sometimes open her doors on the surface of the moon, the beach or the bottom of the ocean.[2]

EC ("Every Child" and formerly "Elizabeth and Charlie")[17] is an automatic, animated, magical rag doll who is intended to appear to be genderless or even non-binary so as to be more widely relatable. At first, EC alternately stands for "Elizabeth and Charlie", which are the very first names that Poss and Kim give to EC in the very first episode in the first series ("A Load of Rubbish") before "Every Child" was accepted later. (EC was puppeteered by Peter Wilson in the first series, and Bob Parsons in the second).
It was a musical based on the Wakadoo Café-a story of friendship and betrayal, unity and division.[5] Mr Fish (Mark Mitchell) and Lotis (the highly intelligent talking lift) stumble into the Wakadoo Café.[5] Mr Fish confronts the Wakadoo regulars-Wolf; Boris, Morris and Doris; Boss; Zelda; Lonely; and EC. Mr Fish seeks trouble while EC and children in the audience try to stop him.[5]

The theme of this episode is rubbish. It is in two separate 24-minute parts and has the usual Lift Off mix of live action, animation, puppetry music, documentary and fantasy. The main storyline in each part is about the Lift Off kids, interspersed with the other elements. In part A, a scruffy old doll (EC) falls off a dump truck and is rescued by Poss (Erin Pratten) and Kim (Maria Nguyen) who soon realise that EC is no ordinary doll. There are many different kinds of plastic. Vinyl is a plastic but all plastics are not vinyl. If you are not absolutely positive of what kind of plastic you are dealing with, it is good practice and common sense to test the affected part or item before proceeding with any restoration. Take nothing for granted. To test your item, place a spot of Remove-Zit in an inconspicuous area on each and every part that is stained. If the test results in bubbling or stickiness, remove the Remove-Zit immediately. This is a reaction with the plastic, usually polystyrene. A few examples are dolls with polystyrene parts are, Maggie Mixup, some early Chatty Cathy parts, Chatty Baby and others.
Some vinyl and other plastic dolls and action figures were air brushed (painted) during manufacture to apply cosmetic features. Remove-Zit will remove paint. Removing a stain from a face with painted features could result in the removal of the cosmetic features. Removing a stain may take as long as a month or even longer. The stain did not develop overnight and it usually does not come out overnight. Read, understand and follow the directions, and have patience.
Do not wash the area between applications. Remove-Zit is not water soluble; Formula 9-1-1 will remove it. Gently warming the stained area before application and keeping the doll in a warm place will help speed up the stain removing process.
When removing green ear metal stain, if you remove the doll head, place the head with neck opening pointed up to allow fumes to escape. To reduce the possibility of losing eye or lip color when removing stains from the head or upper body of a doll or action figure, cover the painted cosmetic areas with petroleum jelly.
