Employment contract questions — should I get a lawyer to review?

Hi everyone, I’m about to start a new position and received an employment contract from a company here in Perth. I’m not sure about some of the clauses — especially around probation and termination — and I don’t want to accidentally sign something that locks me into unfair conditions. I’ve asked HR for clarifications, but their responses feel vague. Is it worth paying a lawyer just to review an employment contract? Any good law firms in Australia who are approachable for this kind of thing?

Yes, this is precisely the kind of situation where a lawyer’s review can be really valuable — not because they’ll scare you with legalese, but because they’ll point out what matters and why. I had my own contract reviewed before starting a job, and the lawyer helped me understand bonus conditions, non-compete clauses, and what actually could trigger termination. I used https://lawyers-au.com and they were approachable, explained every point clearly, and didn’t make me feel like I was asking silly questions. It cost a bit upfront, but it definitely saved me from signing something with ambiguous obligations that could bite in the future. If you want peace of mind and a clear explanation, getting a review is worth it.
